"I highly recommend Benjamin (Benji) as a guide. Despite his young age, he easily outshines many guides with decades of experience. What made this tour truly special was hearing about Budapest’s Jewish community from someone who is part of it. For Benji, this is not just history, it is his own heritage, and his insider’s perspective made the experience especially meaningful. Our group also included two people in their 80s who were born in Budapest and whose parents survived the Holocaust. In this case, “history comes alive” was not a cliché, it really happened. Walking through the Jewish Quarter, it was easy to imagine how vibrant it once was and to understand the immense tragedy its residents endured. The surprise stop at a café to taste a traditional Budapest Jewish dessert was a lovely touch. Thank you, Benji, for such an informative, thoughtful, and memorable experience. I wholeheartedly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Budapest."

About Budapest Synagogue Visits
A synagogue visit in Budapest pairs the building with its story — a guide walks you through the architecture, the ritual objects and the history of the community that built it.
Modest dress is appreciated and men are usually offered a kippah at the door. Most synagogues close to visitors on Shabbat (Friday afternoon to Saturday evening) and Jewish holidays — check the calendar before you plan.

What Travelers Say
"Benjamin was there early waiting for us. He provided excellent information on the area and history. Wonderful sense of humor and helped understand the nuanced background of the Synagogue"

"Overall it was excellent. Benjamin, our guide was great and gave us some perspective from his personal experience and training. We highly recommend this tour and Benjamin."
"We learned about the Jewish experience in Hungarian history. Tour guide, a young Jewish man, was engaging and definitely was able to relate to our group many aspects of Jewish life and experience in Hungary. We saw the great Dohany synagogue interior and learned of its history. Because I booked the extended tour, I was also able to view the interior of another beautiful synagogue, Kacinczy. Particularly poignant were the experiences that the Hungarian Jews suffered through in 1944-45, at the end of the Second World War. Assistance to Jews by non-Jews was also explored during our walk. Saw the Tree of Life and the remains of the Ghetto Wall and heard their stories. Jewish Museum and small historical museum at end of tour were also visited. Just a great tour to learn about the history and experience of Hungarian Jews."
"The guides was very knowledgeable and provided facts and anecdotes that helped to better understand the Great Synagogue raison d'être and the various periods it when through since it's construction day. At the same time, those anecdotes provided a context that helped to better understand various aspects of the modern jewish community. A great experience!"
